Default My appt. this morning.....

Had my gynae appt. today and upon examination the doctor says everything looks and feels normal.

She said that because of PCOS this obviously will make it harder to conceive and basically I need to carry on taking Metformin and lose weight......

She said to give it 6 months and then I can go back to my GP and say that I've been taking the Metformin and I've also lost some weight so then I will be referred for fertility tests.

She was very nice and I know I have to shift some weight so I was expecting her to say that. She did say that it will be difficult to lose weight because of PCOS as my genetic make-up is such that my body wants to store fat  She said this is obviously a good thing if I'm stuck without food for days  but not good when I want to lose the weight!

I wish Jeff had been there because she also said that she hopes family and friends understand that I'm overweight because of PCOS and it's not my fault!!

I now have to go on a strict diet and try hard to lose weight!

I'm going to keep a food diary so hopefully that will help me to stick to it.

Love Nikki xx

Well she sounds really nice. I wish you all the best with losing the weight....its hard enough anyhow without having your body trying to keep hold of the fat.

Hi NIkki,

Sounds like that was quite a positive appt today.

Good luck with losing some weight, think positive. Do you have to lose much? (if that's not too rude a question for me to ask)

Hope the food diary helps

Sounds like your gynae appointment went well and your Dr sounds really nice which is half the battle won in my experience.

As you know I have PCOS too and I have been losing weight by just eating healthy, no choc, biscuits, crisps, junk food etc and trying not to have too many carbs.

Hoiw much Met are you taking per day. I take 1700mg per day. I was told you have to take at least 1500 mg for it to help with PCOS

If I can help you in anyway Nikki just give me a shout

I mentioned this to the doctor Lucy as I was told by my GP down here only to take 500mg a day and then when we moved up to Shropshire the GP there said I should be taking 1500mg - 2000mg a day

Anyway, I've had such bad upset stomachs (as you know) with the higher dose that I went down to 500mg a day.......

The doctor today looked it all up in her medical book and said that as the 500mg was working, i.e. my period were back and every month then it's obviously working so that dosage was fine!

She said to drink LOADS of fluids and eat LOADS of fibre! Obvious things really.....

Clare I have at least 3 stone to lose

Oh right Nikki, well thats what I was told but to be honest I can't remember who by lol.

My periods were ok-ish before I started Met (cycle of about every 40-45 days) but since I have been on thats when the weight started coming off (together with being strict about my diet)

As far as losing weight is oncerned I read that Met puts you "on par" with Women who havent got PCOS. Most women are able to lose weight when they are strict about their diet but with PCOS even if you are strict you can't always lose the weight. Met helps put you in the same league so to speak. I hope that makes sense.
