I am a bit annoyed on how they are doing this for our younger children, but this is how its working...he has all day this friday at school, then again on the 14th. Then he will go straight into full time when he goes back after xmas break. We were under the impression that they would do the same as the older ones at the start of the year, where they came home for lunch for a week and went back in the afternoon...and then went full time. By the time xmas break is over he will have forgotten about his 2 'trial' days karen |

I am so surprised they do this at all. It would have been easier to start them full time after the Half term break so gpoing back in January will be easier for them. Benjamin is probably more than ready for full time so he will probably settle in quite quickly. I don't think they consider the working parents, half days here and there does not suit everyone and parents probably have to use childminders until they settle them in full time. Thankfully Alexander starts full time sept 2008 after a week of mornings/afternoons. |

I would be interested to hear how Thomas and Katie are at the end of this week. They should be easing Benjamin in on January,if they have waitied this long for full time schooling then whats another week. My friends little girl was 4 in Aug and she is exhausted at the end of the week. The parents get quality time together on FRIDAY NIGHT ops:

I know they will settle fine as I changes school in reception due to a place coming up nearer home and I had no problems fitting in at all but I am suprised schools are still doing this, at Jessicas school it was stopped a few years ago as they felt it made it harder for the younger ones to catch up on missed learning like the phonics letters they covered etc and also because the group was established. At Jessicas school everyone started at the same time and did two visits, then a week of have days, a week of half days plus lunch and then full time. In her class it ranges from already turned 5 in september to not five till end of august 2008. They did give an option of half days for those born after March but as far as I know theres only one mum with an august born child who has done this and he only misses two afternoons at the end of the week as hes shattered by then bless. My friends son had 15 weeks of half days yuck  |

Its weird how they separate the time for the young ones to start school. As you say they we will have forgotten their trial period after Xmas. Hope they settle in well. Anthony started in Reception in September full time, he was definately ready for it. Best wishes Jo xxxx |

Our school starts the kids full time right from the outset. Although they don't all start on the same day in September, they stagger the start dates.
