Default I'm 36 weeks pregnant.

I'm looking for information on what others have been through and what can be done.

I'm 36 weeks pregnant and am gestational diabetic to the point that i'm on insulin which they are still adjusting to try to get my sugars under control.

They are telling me that if I don't deliver in 2 weeks they will induce me.

I'm looking to find natural ways to help the cervix soften and open up as it's still quite long and firm. I'm doing this because they warned me that if i am induced and my cervix doesn't respond in a certain amount of time I'd be looking at having to have a c-section which is something I really want to avoid.

Delivering at this point would not be an issue for the baby as we ran into complications just after xmas which required me to stay in the hospital a few days and was given the full round of steroids and antibiotics to boost him up. As of Tuesday they figure he's around the 7lb mark and is doing everything he should be doing and would be perfectly fine to deliver now. I would honestly prefer to go naturally without having to be induced as i went through that with our daughter.

I'm hoping that others who have been through this can give some advice or tips on how I can try to make this easier or avoid the induction all together by naturally bringing on labour.

Thanks.

Firstly I would just like to say welcome to Conception-2-School, please feel free to introduce yourself in the new member introductions and everyone will welcome you.

Firstly congratulations on your pregnancy, you really do not have long left with your pregnancy. I am really not sure what to advise you to soften the cervix. I am sure that someone will be able to advise you here and give more advice. Is there any reason why you are set against a C Section?

I went thru a c section to have my Son and whilst it was a long progress I just had no choice and had to go thru it. I just hope that someone can give you any tips, have you asked your midwife for any advice maybe she could give you some help here, its brill that you are all for the natural Birth and I hope to follow your journey.

Shell xx

Congratulations on your pregnancy, unable to advise you on gestational diabetis, you are obviously mum second time around and i can understand why you wish to avoid a c section if poss. (major surgery , slow recovery, am assuming these are your reasons)

There may be someone on here who could advise you, really hope he comes naturally in the next 2 weeks.

Keep us updated.

Unfortunatly being pregnant is not an area I have a lot of luck with. This is my 10th pregnancy and will be my 3rd child. My son is the only one where there were no complications, but that was 16 years ago.

With our daughter my water broke at 30 weeks and i spent 4 weeks in the hospital before they induced.

The biggest reason they are going to induce me again is because in dec my waterbag decided to spring a leak. Luckily as the baby hasn't been under stress, the fluid has rebuilt and is fine. he's a big boy being just over the 7lb mark already.

As for wanting to avoid the c-section, I made a huge mistake when having my daughter. I said yes to having an epidural and found out the hard way that I was alergic by going into anafaletic shock. Probably spelled that wrong. i scared the dr's bad and at one point they had to shove my daughter who was crowing back into me to stabalize both of us before they could allow her to be born. This all went on over 2 hours from home as the hospital in our community could not handle or provide the care that would be needed to take care of a 6 week preemie baby. We just thank god she was healthy and strong and came home at only 9 days of age and has done extreamly well.

I really want to avoid the c-section because I would have to be put completly under. Not an experience I want, not to mention that they will not do a tubal at the same time here unless it is an emergency. So I would be cut open again 6 weeks later. Not impressed with this as I know we are not changing our minds about not having further babies. I know physically I cannot go through this again. This pregnancy has been the worst so far. Early on I had issues with my kidneys and spent a week in the hospital and had a second round with that 3 months later. Then sprung a leak in the water bag. This doesn't include all the other illnesses that I have had to go through. My biggest concern is that he be healthy (we know it is another boy) but that i will also be able to care for him as well as his 2yr old sister, 16 yr old autistic brother and 15 year old stepdaughter. And to me going naturally is much safer than going through a chemical induction. Not to mention I've already been told that if they have to do the emergency c-section, because of my previous history with anestetics, they will transfer me to a hospital that is again over 2 hours from home before the section could be done.

ok done venting lmao. So any ideas?

we have decided on Gabriel for his name. As to us he's another angel in our lives.

As for stuff i'm finding, i'm reading alot about walking, sex, red rasberry leaf tea, castor oil etc. But i'm looking to find out what has actually worked for people. And some of them (castor oil) have some not so plesant side effects.

I also forgot to mention that I have gone into early labour about 5 times the past 2 weeks only to have it stop. lmao kinda frustrating. And we are definatly ready. Nursery prepped and all that lol. I learnt with our daughter to not leave it to the end to make sure you have everything. Heck we even have the new car seat installed waiting lol. I just really want this done with. I love the idea of being a mom again, but just so tired of being sick constantly not to mention the other issues as well. my biggest thing was waiting till he would be fine, and we are past that point now. I just really want to avoid the chemical induction lol. call me a baby or a chicken and i'll admit to it lol, but on the other hand, I have no fear of a natural delivery with no pain meds. I guess it's just a matter of personal preference.
