Thought I would start a thread on this as this is the biggest thing that is putting me off going to a hotel abroad next year. Do you all have the same problem, i.e. sun beds are reserved?! Do you get up at silly o'clock to reserve a bed yourselves?? Do you think there should be a ban on it, and it's just first come first served when the pool is open?? I really don't want to be getting up at 6 am to put towels down on a bed!!! Nikki x |

I know Shell had this problem Nikki but when we went away last year we didn't have any problems maybe cause ther were 3 pool areas to chose from but then the complex we stayed at was massive. I think it's just the luck of the draw TBH. Where we stayed last year I'm sure they chained the beds up at night and didn't unlock them until 8am which is a good idea I think xx |

Funny you should bring this up Nikki as Gary and I were talking about this yesterday!! I must admit this is one thing that puts me off, but I suppose it depends on the hotel....I loved having our own villa this year so would love to do the same next year if possible!! Where are you looking to go? Ceri x |

Nikki I absolutely hated this experience this year the doors never closed and alot of beds had already been taken when we got down there at 5am. It didnt spoil the holiday but it was a pain in the arse big time. I also always go on trip advisor and have a look at what peoples reviews say about hotels Nikki this does help. When I Stayed at Capo Bay in Cyprus the beds had tags on them and you was allocated a bed for the stay you was there and I think this should be brought out all round it would really help. However one of the other hotels in Majorca by us they didn't open the doors till 8am but then people was pushing and running to get their spots apparently which was causing hassle. Shell.xx |

The hotel I stayed in had 3 pools and was huge but the thing is the beds was always stacked high, we all took it in turns but had to go down in pairs because you could not lift your beds. We was up each day between 5am - 5.30am because any later you would of got a bed by the trees or in the shade.... who wants bites from insects in trees and who wants complete shade on holiday. This was a huge downside for our holiday. xx |

Nikki, does this kind of thing still happen?? When i was a child in france it was the germans getting up to do this sort of thing, we used to either go to the beach or lay our towel down on the concrete. I would not get up at 5am on hols, too stressful. Can see why people are put off going abroad. Villa with a pool sounds like the best way forward , it is expensive but maybe keep the costs down going with another family. |

Karolyn, this does happen and I experienced this year in Majorca and we was majority British in the hotel. It was horrible having to get up at such a time, we couldnt afford to have a bed on the beach every day it was 10 euros 80 cent for 2 beds and an umbrella I mean who could afford that every day. xx |

Shell, ridiculous prices for beds on the beach. They are taking the p*** charging like that but i suppose some peole will pay out. I would rather take my towel and go and lie on the sand. Would have to make sure i am in and out of the water alot to cool off. |

Karolyn, Would you believe that they did have a small section where you was allowed to lie with your towel which we did on a couple of days but I think because of what I was going thru it was so uncomfortable and painful to sit there. I just think the prices was so high but yeah we did have a bed on the beach on one of the days for a change from around the pool but its so bad. I so remember Kyle and Alex playing in the sand and this french lady was reading her book and she was so rude, she told my Nephew and Alex to be quiet. Then she stood up and said I will go somewhere peaceful to read my book and shook all the sand off her towel right in the kids eyes. As you can imagine it caused a row because she starting mouthing off so I told her to shut up being rude and did she own the beach. I have never met someone so rude in my whole life. xx |
