He had one 3 weeks ago as he kept complaining his eyes were hurting him, and then he said the numbers on the sky news clock kept changing while he was looking at it...ie 6 to a 0 when it was obviously staying a 6.... The optician said he was slightly more long sighted in one eye than the other, and she thinks one is turning out slightly (not sure if it was the same one though)...she couldnt complete the test as his eyes kept focusing on other things apart from what she wanted him to focus on. So today we have to go back and have some drops put in his eyes to fix them open....eeek. This has to be done 30 mins before the eye test is done, and he wont be able to see properly for up to 34 hours after, although she said he direct vision will be ok, just everything to the sides will be blurred. He most prob will have to wear glasses for reading etc. Will update you when we get back from opticians. |

well he has to have glasses, for reading, writing, watching tv..playing on his games console....basically anything that involves focussing on something close. She is going to see him in 6 months time. I have bought the prescription home with me as the choice they had in our local boots opticians was naff. He has seen some starwars ones online in d & a but its sayng not available in our local stores...all round kent...!!! i have emailed them to see why this is, and to see if i go into our local one in gillingham, if they can order them for him. Going to london tomorrow too, so may look around lewisham ones. He was so brave when she put in the drops, they stung him like mad but he didnt moan too much. |

Yeah shell i think he looks cute..we got them in specsavers in the end....the ones in boots were naff to be honest, and he did originally want some starwars ones from d & a but they were all shut on sunday when we were looking, so we popped into specsavers in bromley to take a look...he liked those ones, they are shrek glasses...small shrek logo on the sides and on the nose rests, and the glasses case is see through green with shrek written on it....lol

Karen, Couldn't get unto the internet yesterday to reply to this. Benjamin looks great in his glasses , he reallly suits them. Alexander is short sighted, so distance , tv, class room work etc but he has astigmatism (like me rugby ball shaped eyes) so he has to wear his all the time. His are spec savers, we got one pair on the nhs for school , for wear and tear....and then paid for a second pair which are his good ones .. Best to stick to a optician that is easy to get to because tthe frames stretch taking them on and off and they have to go back every now and again to get them re- alined, I was told that children who are long sighted usually grow out of it as long as they wear their glasses when they are supposed to....don't know if this is strickly true. Alexander has been going to app since he was 6 months old(slight turn in one eye) but it seems to have corrected itself over the years, but like Benjamin it was never noticeable. The drops i remember well, they put them into Alexanders eyes and then sent him to the waiting room for about 15 mins while his pupils enlarged......when he was younger he hated that!! Like i said Benjamin realy suits his glasses , it won't take him long to get used to them. |

thanks karolyn....hopefully he will grow out of it...i know i did when i was younger...stopped needing them when i was about 14/15, then my sight went downhill at 41ish....lol although our nearest opticians is boots (5 mins walk away), i think i will stick to spec savers for him, its easy to get to as its only one stop on train and 2 mins walk from station. They seem to have more of a selection etc. |
