Default ASD

My son was diagnosed last July with autism, they are saying this cos he still does not talk at all, he hums tunes and words, just does not say them.
We have a portage worker come to see him each week also see the SALT team with regards to being non verbal.

As some of you know my son was born 12 wks early, he has chronic lung diesease, global development delay, hypermobility in his joints and a servere speech delay, now he is autistic.

We ahve had gernentic chromozone testing done twice and both times its come back negative for anything.

I am so worried if me not being able to keep him safe in my belly has caused his problems, and if I have this baby early will it have the same problems.

Oh Don I can only begin to imagine how you must be feeling but you cant beat yourself up with this pregnancy you have to try and relax.

Jamie my Nephew is autistic too he is such a lovely man though he is in his 20s but he still got the mind of someone in there early teens but it just does not change him as a person.

What does your other half say about it?

Love

Hi Donna
Aiden sounds amazing hes gone through so much and has had so much thrown at him and Hes still out out of it. I cant imagine what you have been through, It must be such a worry for you with a new pregnancy

They will look after you much more, Because of the things aidens gone through to be here, Plus you know if anything doesnt feel right to take notice and see someone so hopefully if anything does happen it can be monitored and treatment given asap

I know its hard and its easy for me to say but try and relax and take every day as it comes

Good luck and hope you have a very happy, healthy and full term pregnancy

Hi I'm new her joined today as Michelle is an old friend from way back.
My daughter Ella is 4 1/2 she was diagnosed with Autism March 09 she has no speech well says odd words out loud but not to us, She hums tunes to herself and can memorise songs very quickly, She is a twin her sister Sophie has global development delay and a speech delay but is slowly catching up, My girls were born 10 weeks early weighing 2lb 12oz & 2lb 9oz they stopped in hospital for 7 weeks, I new something was wrong when she was 2 and wasn't talking Autism came as a real shock to us.

Hi Kath,

First of all I would just like to welcome you here and after all these years we are back in touch. I am so glad that we are back chatting again because used to be so closed.

I know that you had said about the twins before but firstly I didnt know anything about the autism until we got chatting earlier. I can only imagine it was a shock to you and your other half but it does make you stronger to be able to deal with this. Like you said to me that Ella is doing really with her special needs and you have to be proud. Sophie on the other hand is doing really well also and catching up, some children just need a little help to get there.

I think as parents when you dont see them talking or doing things they should be at a certain age you do worry about things, you have 2 adorable girls and with the help, support and love from family they are the best.

Luv
Shell xx

Thanks Michelle its so lovely to be in touch after such a long time.
This is my story My name is Kathleen Shaw i'm 40 years old, Married to hubbie Paul 10 years this Feb we have 4 1/2 yr old twin daughters Sophie & Ella, We used to live in the West Midlands and now live in Co Sligo Rep of Ireland.
Ella's Autism was a real shock to us as a family i remember feeling so guilty that maybe i had done something wrong and why me!!
I like Michelle had IVF Oct 04 as my Hubbie had an vesectamy with a previous partner his reversal failed so we were put on the NHS waiting list for IVF i waited 4 years for my name to be called up which was agonising.
I had my treatment and my eggs put back in New Years Eve 04 i couldn't wait to find out if i was pregnant and did a pregnecy test within 2 weeks and was delighted to find out i was pregnant 1st time when i had my first scan at Aldridge and they told me i was having Identical twins i started to cry with delight & shock i phoned Michelle Batstone re Glover she is such a good friend when i told her she couldn't believe both myself and she would have twins.
I had a really good pregnancy the first 3 months but then became quite ill i had twin 2 twin transfusion syndrome at 20 weeks and had to be rushed into hospital i was asked to terminate Sophie as she wasn't growing and Ella was on the verge of having a heart attack i couldn't!!
I had an emergency operation to save my girls i had to wait 2 weeks to see if they would survive and they did
They were born 10 weeks early by emergency C-Section as i went into early labour at 20 weeks Ella weighed 2lb 12oz and Sophie 2lb 9oz.
It was touch and go for a while with Ella she had an infection and almost died within days, They both were hooked upto tubes & machines it was so scary with all the beeps and alarms going off all the time.
They came home after 7 weeks they are such a delight for us and they so loved.
Ella goes to a Special Needs School there is hope she will speek as she makeslots of noises, Sophie attends a pre-school with assistance and attends weekly speech therapy.
Anyway this is my story and hope to be in touch with whoever would like to chat to me.
Kath xx

Kath,

I have just read your message with tears in my eyes, I am friends with Michelle on Facebook and been friends for many months and it was only yesterday that I knew you and Linda was on Facebook so I couldnt wait to find you and thanks to Michelle I have now found you after all this time so I am pleased with facebook. When you work together and lose contact its horrible because we used to be so so close.

I am still shocked that you have moved to Ireland was it a big decision for you? but least you are happy.

All the things you have gone through with the twins must of been heartbreaking I can only begin to imagine how you must of felt. You go through all the rollercoaster of IVF and I certainly know what that feels like because I have also been there and its a tough old ride but you just want to see results. Luckily for you and I we was blessed with our children and makes us greatful with each passing day.

I am just so sorry to hear of all the problems you have been through but the main thing is you have 2 adorable girls and absolutely love each other to bits. Everyone will be glad to have you hear, we have other members on the boards who have twins so you will have great fun chatting away, everyone is so friendly and you will love being part of our community.

Hi Kath

Sorry, didnt realise you have posted here too.....

Oh my goodness what a time of it you have had...I can relate partly as my twins were 8 weeks early and were in NICU for 3 weeks and like you say all the monitors and beeps its a very scary time.

It sounds like your girls are having all the care they need and are doing well
I hope you and your husband have a good support network....

Keep in touch, thanks for sharing your story.

Ceri

Welcome to the board Kath.

OMG 20 weeks! You are so lucky with your twins and they sound lovely.

I don't have twins myself, but can relate to what has happened to you. With my first I had an emergency C-section at 24 weeks, as I had developed severe pre-eclampsia, which had begun at around 22 weeks.

Louise spent 4 months in neo-natal unit and we nearly lost her a couple of times.

She is now a lively 8 year old and is doing well at school.

I also have Charlotte who is 5, who funnily enough I went full term with.

Looking forward to chatting with you.

Heather x
