Do you allow your child to have salt on their food, chips, salad etc.....

When you cook do you add salt to your food?

shell, i hate salt myself...but tony likes it. I didnt used to use it in cooking, but i have recently started using sea salt as its not so bad for you. benjamin loves salt and vinegar on his chips, so i use a seperate salt shaker for him with low salt in it.

Hi Karen,

You know what I cant have my chips without salt and Alex does have a tiny bit but not much. I dont really buy vinegar so dont even think that Alex would touch it if I put it on. I just wanted to see what peoples views was on this.

I don't put salt in cooking and don't let Braden have salt on his dinner.

I think that if they eat food without the salt then why give it to them??!!!

The same goes with sugar - I don't put sugar on the boys cereals etc. as they have always eaten without, so why start?!

My sister in law gave her kids cereals without sugar when they were tiny and then suddenly started giving it to them as they got to 3/4!! Why????

No i dont put salt on anything of Jazmines. I personally have it on Chips, Mash, Roast potatoes, Veg but dont put any on Jazmines. When i do mash i just put Pepper in then add the salt to mine once its on my plate.

I dont put salt in food and i dont put salt on dinners
i only have salt and vingar if i have chips from the chippie but home cooked i dont salt or use vinegar the girls dont have any kind of salt on there food.
But they do get salt as most of the time its already in the food itself.

The girls dont have sugar either izzy only has a quarter of a tea spoon in her cup of tea but thats only cause she loves our tea and we both have sugar although she will drink other peoples tea with no sugar or sweetners in them xxx

Hi All,

Well Alex only gets salt on his chips and its not very often he as chips if I am honest.

I dont understand why people add sugar when children gets older but then saying that Alex does have sugar when he as ready brek because he wont eat it without.

i wont allow my kids to have salt or sugar ,i dont put it in cooking, they dont have fizzy pop, or sugar in their tea and if they have sweets a day a week that will be it . it sounds a bit mean but you know the damage they dont so i think as a parent its up to you , i have a friend who insists on putting sugar in her baby girls water so she will drink it , madness xx

Oh Nat, I cant say anything about that because I used to put a little bit of Sugar in Alex's water when he was having it when he was young but then I dont now and they used to say a little bit dont harm them just makes them go to the toilet more freely.
I guess we are all different it wasnt a thread to judge people just to keep the board active xx
