Default When is the best time

Just wondering when you think it is the best time to start potty training? I know all children are different but was wondering when you started your lo's and how long it took?

I am thinking of waiting until Jazmine is atleast 2 and a half is that too long?

xx

No!.....in my opinion I would wait until she is really ready....both T & K were potty trained by their 3rd birthday and they were ready and it made it so much easier I think it will be hard work if you start before they are ready.......

The best time is when the child is ready. If they realize when they need to go to the bathroom, then that's a good time to introduce it to them. My oldest will be 4 in June and we still can't get her to do anything other than pee on the potty. She sleeps well through the night without diapers, but any time she has to poo, she wants a diaper.

There is no age Laura - it all depends on the child. Some children are ready at 18 months, some at 3 years!

I tried Braden at 2 and half and it failed miserably. I tried again a few weeks before his 3rd birthday and he was dry within the week. The longer you leave it the more successful it is, in my opinion.

Ok thanks for your advice. Jazmine is getting aware of poo and sometimes tells me when she has done one and the other day she even went into the toilet at my Nans and pointed at it so i took her nappy off but once i sat her on it she wanted to come off!!LOL

Laura,

I think you will know when Jazmine is ready if you start before she is ready then it probably wont work. I think if I remember rightly Alex was dry before he was 3, I did have it really easy with Alex, he was dry day and night within 4 weeks. I am so lucky he probably only weed the bed what I can count on one hand.

Good Luck hun its so exciting aint it.

I did Keiran just before he was 3 and it took a couple of weeks. I did also try him when he turned 2 but he wasn't ready then.
It's good Jazmine knows where she needs to go. I would wait till maybe she starts to recognise that she is wet as thats the stage Keiran was at & I found it a lot easier then.
To help with training when your out the house we used to put pants on keiran and then a pullup on top of the pants so he thought he had pants on but we also had a safety backup just incase we couldn't get him to a loo on time.

Let us know how you get on.

The penny dropped with Alexander just before his 3rd birthday.

He certainly was not ready before then.

No hurry Jazmine will tell you when she is ready...........

Same here with benjamin, 2 weeks before his 3rd birthday he managed to get dry....had tried him earlier but got stressed with him peeing his pants, and he was getting stressed too.
all the best for when you do try her.

Every child is different, I tried Becky around New Year of 08, but she didn't seem ready, so left it for a few weeks before trying again

I started Becky this time last year partly because it seemed that she was ready a little and partly because we were coming up to the nice weather. I think she was around 2 and a half give or take a few weeks.

All I did was leave her bottom half bare while we were at home and at my in laws farm. Any other time we went out she had a pull up on. She is such a stubborn moo that I ended up letting her do it at her own pace and it took approximately 4 months for her to physically tell me that she needed a wee. She only really started getting used to wearing pants from around late August/early September last year, but I wanted to get her started early with the potty training as she started nursery 5 afternoons a week in January this year.

She still has an odd accident here and there, so I always leave some spare pants and trousers of hers at nursery as a "just in case" then I don't have to worry too much about having to get nursery's trousers and pants back to them for the next day or anything
