Default Dads to get rights to more paternity leave.

Good news for Dads, rights for more paternity leave, The new rights, to three months' paid leave and three months' unpaid, will come into force from April 2011.

At present, fathers are entitled to two weeks' paid leave while mothers can take 52 weeks off - 39 of them paid.

This is going to be great for Dad's and what a great result

I think its a big load of nonsense why does the father only get 3 months paid if they want to bring in splitting maternity in half then it should be equal mothers get paid for 6months fathers get paid for 6 months i mean they are saying by 2012 maternity will be 12 months

it is good that fathers get to take time with the children but i cant see many men doing it but there are men out there who would jump at the chance

Lyn does a woman not get 9 months now with pay? I just think its a good thing in one respect for the Dad's because they hardly get anything now. The ones who wont benefit so much are self employed.

but shell they are doing it to incourage men to take time off well why shouldnt it be equal if women get paid for 6 months why cant the man

One thing is for sure companies are not going to like it. Its easy to employ another person to cover a womens maternity leave but how are they going to find it covering for a man and only for 3 months xx

Self employed will still get it as it will go through there tax at the end of the year x

I commented on this on face book, although it would have been nice for Koulis to get time off with me, i found the best time for me and Alexander and to get into some sort of routine was when Koulis had gone to work!!

Financially what a strain, do men get to chose when they get their months???

I remember only getting 3 months full pay and 3 months statutary maternity pay.

I took the year off and it was 6 months with pay and 6 months without pay, Lee took the 2 weeks off before so when I did have Alex he was back at work so it was facing everything myself until he returned home from work. I Guess some Dad's will love this. xx

Although the dads get 3 months paid leave, it's only statutory pay.
