thanks all for replying............. it seems the old remadies are the best (tea tree) I bought some pure tea tree oil from Holland & Barrats, i have mixed it with some water and popped it into a water spray bottle it seems to do the trick. Although it is very over powering !!! The nitty Gritty comb is good aswell £10 but it has a lifetime guarantee so if it breaks or goes rusty you send it off and then send you out a new one!!!

I'm not sure if your chemist is the same but a few local to me do a scheme where: if your doctor is registered with them on the "scheme" there is a list of items you can get free of charge, for example, cough & cold medicine, nit lotion, and loads more even things for your self!!! it's worth asking your doctor next time to see if they are part of this sceme- will save you a fortune in the long run!!!

The tea tree oil is over powering, if you get a change get the shampoo and use it on the girls....he is well diluted, and over time hopefully the nits will jump unto other peoples hair and not the girls.

I heard that if you take a live nit into the chemist they will give you free products??? Not sure how true that it , so if i could do that, think i would rather discreetly buy the remedies.

I just think its horrible for our children but after reading this I am gonna get Alex some of that shampoo it was the most stressful time when it came to him having them and he only had short hair but it was upsetting for me and Alex he thought he wasnt clean until I explained they only live in clean hair.
xx

It is a stressful time and it makes me feel physically sick the thought of them ever in my hair.

Fingers and everything crossed but i have never had them.

Apparently the clean hair thing is a myth - truth is they like ANY hair!

I found these facts which might be of use:
* head lice are more common in long hair
* infestations are two to four times more common in girls
* head lice spread through head-head contact – explaining why they spread through
childcare centres, schools and families
* head lice don't always make your head itchy – so you need to look closely to find them
* head lice can't survive for too long off the head – focus treatment on the hair not the
house.

Lice don't "jump" - that is a myth too, but since kids love to cuddle and stick their heads together, especially girls (!) the nits just climb across!

I find the Voseen anti-nit shampoo and leave in spray brilliant - so far, despite 5 letters saying someone in Ollie's class has them, he has escaped them (crosses fingers!!) :0)

me too,

Having said that is mostly my friends daughters who have complained about head lice, and not the friends with sons.
